Princess Margaret visited Redditch and was given a tour of the British Needle Company on 23 October 1962.
The firm’s Sales Director, Mr C Buckle, conducted the tour where the Princess met:
- Mr Harold Coom who was pointing needles – he had been with the firm for 43 years
- Mr John Clissett who was stamping and eyeing sail needles
- Mr Albert Day who was blind due to an accident at work and had also worked for the company for 43 years
- Mr Leonard Brooks who worked in the scouring mill and he had worked for British Needle since the age of 14.
- Mr Desmond Tyrell, in the polishing shop.
- Elsie Sabin in the press shop.
- Mrs Jessie Atkins (a needle wrapper), who amazed the Princess which her speed in packing the needles
- And finally, Mrs Kathleen Sealey whose job it was to inspect the needles.
Mr Keesey then presented the Princess with a blue leather needlecase containing 300 needles.
